• 👏 The importance of Creative Education - This report is based on a survey of over 7,000 secondary school teachers which found that creative subject teachers (for example art, design and technology) are the most likely to provide 'live' industry experience for their pupils. It also finds:

  • 88% of young people aged 11+ report considering a creative career, or the possibility of exploring one more, after direct engagement where they were given the opportunity to learn about the panoply of jobs existing within the UK’s creative industries.

  • 93% of 16-18 year olds report that creative education fostering self-expression, teamwork and empathy, positively impacts on their mental health and wellbeing.

• 💸 The UK craft economy is massive. The internet has fuelled extreme growth. For example, in December 2018 Etsy reported that there were 220,000 active sellers in the UK!

• 😍 People LOVE to buy craft products. Online craft purchases have grown from 332k people in 2006 to 10.3m people in 2020.

• 🌈 The UK has a young, diverse market. Compared to 2006, the craft marker consumers in 2020 were younger, more ethnically diverse, less dominated by graduates & with lower specialist knowledge.

• 🌎 It’s international. In 2020 around half (49–53%) of makers had sold work overseas in the previous 12 months.
