ERIC are supporting a campaign that the Teach First Careers Network has started regarding careers education in Primary schools, asking for ringfenced funding for the training of a Careers Leader position in Primary school among other specific requests. The Network has written an Open Letter, which you can read here. They will be submitting to Nadhim Zahawi, Secretary of State for Education, in August. This couldn’t be more topical, especially considering Teach First’s recently published research stating that 98% of primary school teachers agreed that primary schools should help break down gender stereotypes relating to subjects and careers. 66% said they think that careers education in primary schools will raise aspiration, and 71% said they think it will raise their pupils’ awareness of different career pathways. The letter will be shared publicly week commencing 4 July for signatures from the wider education community - so this is an exclusive first look at the letter for the ERIC schools network.
