• 🏭 Launch of Man Met’s new creative school, SODA - Oscar-winning film director Danny Boyle has formally opened Manchester Metropolitan University’s pioneering School of Digital Arts (SODA), a £35m investment into the next generation of creative content. Offering industry-informed courses and state-of-the-art spaces equipped with the latest technologies, SODA provides a unique teaching and research environment that supports Manchester’s ambition to be a leading powerhouse of the UK’s digital economy.

• 🎏 Free creative career event for 8-15yrs - In Guildford on 8th July and Salford on 13th July. Brought to you by Digital Schoolhouse in association with Electronic Arts, the Festival of Play is a brand-new creative careers and Computing conference for students aged 8-15 years, packed with interactive workshops, inspiring talks, and innovative games.

  Not only will the Festival of Play educate and empower students to get hands on with technology used in the field, STEAM subjects and related jobs, it will also equip accompanying teachers with creative and playful ways to approach Computing in the classroom.

• 🎭 Free theatre programme for secondary schools - Following a successful pilot phase that began in Autumn 2021, the National Theatre’s Speak Up programme will expand to work with nearly 140,000 young people in 55 secondary schools nationwide across the next three years. Speak Up is the NT’s new national programme which sees young people, who have been most affected by the pandemic, working in collaboration with local artists and teachers to co-create artistic responses to issues that are most important to them. Responding to the current challenges in schools, the programme aims to develop young people’s self-expression, wellbeing and personal skills, with an open-ended offer to make creative projects in their local area. • 🤖 Free accessible art trail for kids in London - The UK's leading charity for young wheelchair users, Whizz-Kidz, has launched a major new initiative, Morph’s Epic Art Adventure in London, which is set to be the first accessible, step-free cultural event of its kind. The launch event, hosted at The Museum of London in Barbican, in London, announced the partnership between Whizz-Kidz, Wild in Art, and Aardman - the award-winning animation studio and creator of the childhood-favourite and much-loved animated character, Morph.

• 📚 Fantastic article about the future of Creative AI - “In spite of growing concerns about the impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution on careers and the need to reskill when jobs become obsolete, there is still a lack of education around AI in FE.

  It is most likely that repetitive jobs will be the most affected at first. A report by PwC for the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy identified that ‘clerical and routine manual roles may see negative net employment effects that start to come through over the next 5-10 years as technologies such as robot process automation roll out across the economy.’ But what skills will be in demand in the future and what will the impact be on the creative industry? Surely human creativity will be a valuable skill in this new world.”
