You might think gaming is just the battle between Nintendo Switch, Xbox and Playstation, but there’s a lot more to it than that! In fact, the gaming industry is one of the most exciting of the creative industries right now - and it heavily overlaps with tech.

Have you ever thought about who makes your favourite games? What is included in the creation process? How they’re built and tested before you can buy them in your local store?

The industry involves a huge number of companies with a huge number of jobs that require a huge range of skills - many of which are heavily creative. Roles like game designers, scriptwriters, animator, concept artist, games tester and many other types of creatives are integral to shaping the experience, narrative, look and feel of the games you play.

If you are passionate about gaming, there’s definitely a job for you!

  • 🧒 It’s a GREAT career for new generations. 59% of people who work in gaming are aged 16-39!

    🌆 There are LOADS of employers. There are currently 2,277 active video game companies in the UK.

    💷 It’s WELL-paid. The average salary of a games developer in the UK is £45k per year.

    📈 It’s growing FAST: The UK gaming industry is growing by over 12% every year.

    🌟The number of people supported by the UK games industry in full-time equivalent roles grew to 73,370 in 2019. Of these workers, 24,020 were employed in direct developing and publishing roles.

    🖥Employment in the UK games development industry has grown 25% between April 2020 and December 2021.

    🕹Growth in the UK games industry has been faster in 2019/2020 than it's ever been, since trade association TIGA started doing annual reports in 2007/08.

    🖲 Reported by TIGA (The Independent Game Developers' Association) a 12.2% annual growth rate was recorded for creative staff working in development studios, with employee counts rising from 14,353 to 16,836 from November 2018 to April 2020 (which is what we love to see!).

  • 🏀Esport is set to be a bigger spectator sport than traditional sports in the next few years!

    💰The UK Gaming Industry is predicted to be worth €240 billion by 2024. With gaming becoming increasingly popular and accessible, with many opportunities available for budding and experienced developers, designers and entrepreneurs.
