Stella McCartney

One of the world’s most well-known fashion designers and arguably the most stylish vegetarian around, Stella McCartney is the daughter of ex-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney and was born in Lambeth in 1971. She shot to fame when her friends - who just so happened to be supermodels Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss - modelled her clothes at college graduation. The early noughties were some of the best years of her career; In 2000, she won the VH1/Vogue Designer of the Year award and in 2001 she signed a deal with Gucci group, giving her her own label. She’s launched her own lines of everything from organic skincare to lingerie, perfume as well as being a faux-leather pioneer and anti-animal cruelty campaigner. A famous fashionista with a moral compass… somewhat of a rarity wouldn’t you say?

Bowie

Is an introduction really needed here? Late international superstar Bowie was born in 1947 in Brixton, and released his first major solo, Space Oddity, in the summer of 1969. His 1970 album, ‘The Man Who Sold The World’ catapulted him to mega-fame and he introduced the world to his alter ego ‘Ziggy Stardust’, hailing a newer, more sparkly age in rock music. His musical success continued well into the 80’s, and Bowie even tried out acting; he received critical acclaim for his performance in The Elephant Man and he landed the title role in the film The Man Who Fell To Earth. Bowie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996. The icon passed away 2016, two days after his 69th birthday.

Sharon Osbourne

Born in Lambeth in 1952, Sharon (or ‘SHARON!!!!!’ for those in-the-know) gained a lot of media attention when she was a main feature in on the MTV reality series The Osbournes in 2002 which basically the rock-star version of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. She jumped from strength to strength, managing the career of her daughter Kelly, hosting her own daytime talk show ‘The Osbourne Show’, becoming a judge on the X Factor and America’s Got Talent, and releasing her best-selling book ‘Extreme: My Autobiography’ in 2006.

Naomi Campbell

You’ve probably seen her gracing a high profile magazine cover, or adorning a billboard somewhere for a designer fashion campaign, but guess what - sis is a South London girl. Naomi was born in Streatham in 1970 to Valerie Morris, a dancer. Aged just 18, she became the first black woman on the cover of French and British Vogue and the first black model to grace the cover of Time magazine. As well as modelling, Naomi is a businesswoman, actress, singer (she’s had a surprisingly successful music career in Japan - random, I know), television producer, and author. She’s also reportedly got quite a temper on her and has been threatened with jail a number of times for assault - and who can forget her outrageous outfits while completing community service back in 2008.

Big Narstie

If you haven’t watched him religiously on the recent TV hit, ‘The Big Narstie Show’ or seen the millions of internet memes with his face plastered all over them, you’ll remember him from his noughties musical success. His 2007 song ‘Brushman’ was named RWD magazine’s ‘Song of the Year’ and he’s performed at some of Europe’s biggest music festivals including The Wireless Festival, A Day in Dam, The Outlook Festival, and The Hip Hop Kemp Festival.
